START OF OUR JOURNEY
Auranta was established by John and Pat, who were looking for all-natural antimicrobial solutions to improve the shelf life of food and reduce food waste. An innovative biotech company was born as a result.
The expertise of a company is often the foundation of its success
Auranta is a spin-off from the University College Dublin Research and Innovation unit NovaUCD. Auranta’s scientific and technical expertise is a vital source of knowledge that helps us create innovative products – and retain our competitive edge.
From a business management perspective, Auranta receives valuable insights from Dr. Chris Horn, who joined our team in 2017. His experience in investing in emerging technologies on an international level has further strengthened Auranta’s commitment to its global mission of reducing antimicrobial resistance.
Auranta was established as a biotech start-up company. Today we are ready to further scale up our activities. We are therefore proud and pleased to share our milestones with you.
Auranta was established by John and Pat, who were looking for all-natural antimicrobial solutions to improve the shelf life of food and reduce food waste. An innovative biotech company was born as a result.
University College Dublin (UCD) commended John and Pat’s vision. This resulted in Auranta joining forces with the Nova UCD programme, which became the basis for fundamental research, and accelerated the development of innovative antimicrobial solutions.
Auranta provided scientific proof for the efficacy of its antimicrobial solutions; professionals in the animal feed industry soon recognised its numerous advantages. New R&D projects started investigating the potential application of these solutions in the animal production industry.
A team of PhD and post-doctoral students started publishing their findings in internationally recognised scientific journals, under the supervision of two professors in veterinary medicine and microbiology. Meanwhile, AuraCalf was successfully launched for Irish dairy and cattle farmers.
A team of pioneers published a number of articles in multiple scientific journals regarding the microbiological efficacy of Auranta in the fight against E.coli, Cryptosporidium, Mycoplasma, Campylobacter and Listerioses. At this point, the application of antimicrobial solutions in monogastric animal species also started generating considerable interest.
Establishing the practical applicability of scientific findings can only be achieved in the field. Irish farmers reported significantly fewer episodes of scours and diarrhoea following the use of AuraCalf. Piglets and calves receive AuraShield in pre-starter and starter diets, successfully replacing ZnO. Poultry producers confirm that there is less need for veterinary treatments, and are successfully replacing antibiotics with the Auranta feed additive technology.
The Irish Times recognises the value of Auranta’s innovative technologies, which help reduce the demand for antibiotics and thereby radically reshape the future of livestock production. Auranta is an award winner in the “New Frontiers” category.
With an R&D budget of more than one and a half million euros, it is time to further disseminate Auranta’s innovative nutritional technologies, to ensure that the global livestock industry can benefit from them too!
